MACALLAN MONTH: Daniel Craig Demonstrates How NOT to Drink Macallan in "Layer Cake"

Hope y'all enjoyed our month of Macallan sightings.  Let us know what whisky you'd like to see more sightings from in the future.  There's likely enough Glenlivet, Black Label, and Glenfiddich out there to fill the rest of 2017.

If you're a fan of gangster movies and you haven't seen "Layer Cake" then you oughta be ashamed of yourself.  This 2004 flick really packs a punch.  Great directing by Matthew Vaughn (who also directed Kick-Ass) and awesome acting by James Bond himself.

There is a Macallan sighting at the 1:00:50 mark which you can watch below.  Daniel Craig (whose character doesn't have a name) needs some help coming to terms with the fact that he just committed his first murder.  He decides to pulverize some recreational pharmaceuticals and washes 'em down with a bottle of Macallan.  What a waste of perfectly good scotch.

MACALLAN MONTH: Olivia Wilde Ordering Macallan 25 in "The Change Up"

This was actually Scotch Cinema's first MacAllan 25 sighting.  It was originally posted way back in 2011.  This one takes place at the 1:18:35 mark in the film and the scene features Olivia Wilde and Ryan Reynolds.  The film itself was actually funnier than expected considering the poor reviews it initially received.

MACALLAN MONTH: Macallan 25 in "Forever"

Here is the one and only scotch sighting from the short-lived ABC series "Forever".  Although it was considered one of the networks best new shows of the 2015 season, it was cancelled due to less than stellar ratings.  Oh well, At least we got this scene featuring a Macallan 25.

MACALLAN MONTH: Macallan 18 in "Suits"

This scene is so great that it could practically be used as a Macallan commercial.  Except for the whole headstone thing of course.  I suppose nobody wants their product associated with the grim spectre of death.

The clip below is from episode eight of season two entitled  "Rewind".  It's also very similar to this Glenlivet scene from Grosse Pointe Blank by the way.

MACALLAN MONTH: Ordering a Macallan 25 in "Suits"

This one aired way back in 2013.  The Macallan 25 mention is from the final episode of season 2.  In the latest scene Louis (Rick Hoffman) orders himself a 25 year old Macallan.  The clip itself is rather short but I couldn't let it go since I'm such a sucker for Macallan.

Louis actually gets insulted for ordering this drink.  How insane is that?  Pretty hard to come up with a manlier or more sophisticated drink than a (neat) Macallan 25.  Ok, I'd better slow down before I run out and take the writers of Suits hostage.

Someone Spiked Adam Levine's Whisky in the New Maroon 5 "Cold" Video

It is always great to see a well-made, well-conceptualized music video nowadays.  The latest video for the new Maroon 5 track "Cold" is a welcome change from the lazy, rushed, low budget clips which have permeated the industry over the last decade and a half.

The short clip above shows a white-haired Levine ordering up a whisky while looking like a total badass, only to have it spiked with some unknown psychedelic by an unknown perpetrator.  Watch the full clip below to see the madness and hilarity which follows.  Remind me never to accept an invitation to a party at Future's crib.

MACALLAN MONTH: Every Macallan Sighting From "Skyfall"

I had to do a bit of shabby editing in order to avoid any spoilers, but ALL FOUR Macallan sightings are now compiled in the video below. This is definitely the first appearance of a 50 year old Macallan on film.  The closest we've had in the past was this 25 year old sighting a few months back.  Click here and here to check out the previous scotch scenes featuring Daniel Craig in other films.  I've also included a few screenshots and some great Skyfall artwork below.

How Many Whiskies Can You Spot in "P.S. I Love You"?

Check out this short clip from the 2007 film "PS I Love You".  We were able to spot quite a few bottles (Jameson being the most prominent) at the bar during a memorial service.  Can anyone name the bottle to the left of the Laphroaig?  Let us know in the comments.

Johnnie Walker Red Label in "The Blair Witch Project"

If you've never actually watched "The Blair Witch Project" you may be surprised to discover that it actually does look that bad.  The clip above is not from a flashback scene or a bit of alternative film formatting used for dramatic effect in a cut scene.  The entire film looks like this with the exception of the scenes which are shot in black and white.  That being said, I saw "The Blair Witch Project" in the theatre twice back in 1999 and it scared the bejeezus out of me both times.

The Red Label bottle shows up 11 minutes into the film when the documentary crew are in their hotel room getting ready to go search for the Blair Witch.  Check out the trailer for the 2016 sequel below.  Back to The Macallan sightings on Monday.  Promise.

MACALLAN MONTH: Who Noticed the Macallan Mention "Arrested Development"?

Well that only took nine years.  I can officially say that I have seen every episode of "Arrested Development" and there IS a scotch sighting.  Well, to be honest it's more of a mention than a sighting, but I'll take it.  If you have finished watching the final season then you are probably left dumbfounded and wanting more.  I'm seriously considering starting it over again because I have so many questions.  Questions like "What happened to Lucille 2?",  "What was Barry Zuckerkorn on trial for which involved a highschool?", and most importantly "Her?"

In this scene from the Maeby episode (aka "Senoritis*) we see Maeby order a Macallan 12 at around the 13 minute mark.  I would've thought GOB or Lucille 1 would be the Single Malt fan in the family.

MACALLAN MONTH: A Quick Macallan Sighting From HBO's True Detective

Here's the brief shot of Macallan 12 from the first season of "True Detective".  I've bribed enough law enforcement types in my time to know that one can never go wrong with this bottle.  Though depending on the severity of the favor you're asking, you might want to spring for the 18. The clip above is from around the 30 minute mark in season 1 episode 7 episode titled "After You've Gone".

MACALLAN MONTH: Uma Thurman Sippin' Macallan in "Be Cool"

This 2005 sequel to "Get Shorty" finds loan shark turned movie producer Chili Palmer (John Travolta) branching out into the music industry.

The Macallan bottle appears so briefly in this scene (which begins at the 14:24 mark) that I had to pause the blu-ray to make certain it actually WAS the famous Speysider bottle on the table.

John Travolta Drinks McCleary's Scotch in "Pulp Fiction"
As per the rules of this site we typically wouldn't post a scotch sighting unless someone is actually drinking the scotch in question.  It would be a waste of everyone's time if, for example, we posted a clip of a bottle in a bar over some actor's shoulder.  However considering the fact that Edie (Uma Thurman) is clearly sipping a brown liquor consistent with the color of Macallan,  we'll let it slide and bend the rules just this once.  You'll see why when you watch the video.

I think Aerosmith fans might enjoy this scene as well...

MACALLAN MONTH: Richard Gere and a Macallan 25 in "Arbitrage"

What you're about to witness is our first ever 25 year old Macallan sighting.  It takes place about 20 minutes into the 2012 film "Arbitrage" when Robert Miller (Richard Gere) pours himself a late-night dram to unwind after a stressful day at the office.  Lots more Macallan appearances to come throughout the month of February.

Lagavulin in the latest episode of "The Expanse"

Here the latest Lagavulin sighting from the astounding Syfy series "The Expanse".  It's great to see that this series was picked up for another season.  The show itself (created by the collaborative team known as James S.A. Corey) has a bit of a Philip K. Dick-esque "Bladerunner" meets "The Fifth Element" vibe that any true Sci-Fi fan would love to binge.  This clip featuring Lagavulin is from a scene which takes place about 18 minutes into the second episode of season 2. The writers have signed a deal to write as many as NINE books in the series, so hopefully the show will continue for many years to come.

MACALLAN MONTH: Drinking Macallan 18 in "The 25th Hour"

Sorry for being a day late with this one.  Only 24 hours in a day and we needed an extra hour to get this bad boy posted.  So, like, 25 hours.

"The 25th Hour" stars Ed Norton as Monty Brogan, an ex-drug dealer who is trying to enjoy his last night of freedom before going to prison for 7 years.

Monty's friends, Frank (Barry Pepper) and Jacob (Philip Seymore Hoffman) decide to take him out for a night on the town in order to help him forget his troubles.

The nightclub scene is actually 34 minutes long.  Not to worry though.  We've cut it down to the most important 57 seconds which of course is the Macallan 18  sighting.  Check out the clip above which takes place at the 1:10:30 mark in the film.

MACALLAN MONTH: A 1926 Macallan Gets Wasted in House of Cards

Yet another great sighting from the Netflix original series "House of Cards".  This scene featuring a $40,000 bottle of Macallan is from the 5th episode of season 2.  Some of you may remember a 1926 Macallan selling for $54,000 a few years back.  Watch the video and try not to cry when you see what happens.  I'd be devastated if someone treated my 12 year Macallan like this.

MACALLAN MONTH: Ben Affleck Drinks Macallan in "Argo"

Scotch Cinema will be featuring a different scotch each month as a way for eagle-eyed visitors like yourself to catch up on some of the clips you might have missed over the past 6 years.  We're kicking it off with Macallan since it is a personal favourite and has always been good to us.  There will still be regular posts of all different kinds throughout the month, but we will feature a Macalln sighting each weekday until March.

It is always great to see a Macallan sighting in a movie and fortunately this delicious Speyside single malt has been popping up more and more as of late.  This clip takes place at the 1:19 mark in the film when Tony Mendez (Affleck) snatches a bottle from the Canadian ambassador's house.  He has a big decision to make and needs some liquid courage to help him do the right thing.  Always works for me.

I've added some alternate artwork below.  Including the original fake CIA production poster used during the mission.
