McCleary's Blended Scotch in Pulp Fiction

I'm not kidding when I tell you that I've watched Pulp Fiction dozens of times.  I'm actually watching it as I type right now.  The gold watch scene to be specific.  Having said that, out of all the times I've seen this movie I'd never noticed the scotch sighting.  The bottle of McCleary's blended scotch flashes on the screen in full frame but is briefly obscured by Vincent Vega's (John Travolta) hand.  The label only has a fraction of a second of screen time, but thanks to the magic of Blu-ray technology the writing on the bottle is now crystal clear.  The scene takes place about 33 minutes into the film.

McCleary's isn't a real brand, of course.  Tarantino is known for creating lots of phoney products which appear in his films.  Everything from cereal, to burgers, and even cigarettes are conjured up by the brilliant mind of QT.  A Google search for McCleary's turned up only one result which was this brief mention on the Miramax website.  Check out the video along with screenshots and some amazing alternate promotional artwork below.

Glenlivet 18 Spotted in "Trouble With the Curve"

The wait is over, folks.  Scotch Cinema is back with a new batch of sightings from some great movies and TV shows.  Let's kick it off with our first ever Glenlivet 18 sighting.  There have been countless Glenlivet appearances on the site over the years (search "Glenlivet" up there in the top left and see for yourself) but they have all been the standard 12 year expression.

This clip takes place at the 1 hour and 15 minute mark in Trouble With the Curve starring Clint Eastwood, Amy Adams, and some Justin guy.

Big thanks to Cato Auestad from Norway for tweeting this sighting to me.  Follow Cato here.

Macallan Mentioned in the Season Finale of "Suits"

The season finale of Suits aired last month and there was another Macallan mention.  Thanks to Brian Winger for tweeting this sighting to us a few weeks back.  Here's the previous Macallan sighting from back in August.  In the latest scene Louis (Rick Hoffman) orders himself a 25 year old Macallan.  Check out the clip.  It's very short but I couldn't let it go since I'm such a sucker for Macallan.

Louis actually gets insulted for ordering this drink.  How insane is that?  Pretty hard to come up with a manlier or more sophisticated drink than a (neat) Macallan 25.  Ok, I'd better slow down before I run out and take the writers of Suits hostage.

Lagavulin in "This is 40"

Just a quick glimpse of the Lagavulin here but it was a pretty funny scene so I had to include it.  Kinda hard to tell what year is written on the box from watching my DVD copy.  Anyone with a Blu-ray copy and way too much time on their hands might have more luck than I did. The clip takes place around 1:41 in This is 40 and features Paul Rudd, Leslie Mann, and John Lithgow.

It's been over nine months since the previous Lagavulin sighting.  I was beginning to think it was never going to pop up again.  Click here to watch the scene and here for some previous Lagavulin clips.

And don't forget to like us on Facebook or I'll kill you.

P.S. Meagan Fox is in this movie.

Another "Gossip Girl" Scotch Sighting.

It's been about four months since the first Gossip Girl sighting and thanks to a comment from a kind lady named Ashley on the previous post we now have another one.  Hopefully there'll be more in the future.

At about the 1:30 mark in episode 8 from the last season entitled "It's Really Complicated" we see Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick) waking up with a little hair of the dog.   The bottle reads "Single Malt Fife Ness 18".  Obviously a fake.  Which is strange considering Johnnie Walker Black Label  was used in the last Gossip Girl sighting.

And the winner is...

Congrats to Mr. Al Thompson from Takoma Park, Maryland in the good old USA!  You are the winner of the very first Scotch Cinema giveaway.  A shiny new pair of Johnnie Walker cuff links will be mailed to you tomorrow.

Thanks to everyone who participated and thanks to Johnnie Walker.  Hopefully I'll have lots and lots and lots of whisky related items to use in future contests.  Any suggestions for the site are always welcome.  I read every Tweet, email, and Facebook message and will reply asap.

Lots of new sightings coming soon from recent movies (Jack Reacher, This is 40) and TV shows (Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars, Blue Bloods).  In the meantime...keep walking!

Blanton's Bourbon in "House of Cards"

Sorry for the lack of regular updates.  I've been working in a very remote location as of late and for the time being will only be able to post 4 or 5 clips per month.  Thanks for continuing to visit the site.  Lots more post to come shortly, including the Johnnie Walker giveaway tomorrow!  Good luck to all who entered.

Here's a quick Blanton's Bourbon sighting from the incredible new Netflix original series House of Cards starring Kevin Spacey.  The Blanton's appears at the 42 minute mark in the series premiere entitled "Chapter 1". Actually, each episode title is simply a numbered chapter so they don't technically have titles.  We'll be adding more bourbon sightings in the future so feel free to keep 'em coming.  Check out the video!
