Three Scotch Sightings in "The Ghost Writer"

    The 2010 political thriller The Ghost Writer (aka The Ghost) was one of the inspirations for starting this site.  I was sitting in the theatre and was unable to identify the bottle which appears at the 1:04:00 mark in the film.  The Singleton and miniature Black Label bottles where easily identifiable but some online detective work was required in order to put a name to the Dewar's "Signature" bottle.

    This is actually the third Roman Polanski film to feature multiple scotch sightings.  Three occurrences indicates a trend so I might have to dig a little deeper into Polanski's filmography.

Great Oban Sighting in HBO's "The Newsroom"

    Here's a scene from the new HBO series The Newsroom which features an excellent exchange between Jeff Daniels and Sam Waterston.  I personally enjoyed every second of the show but I'm a bit of a news/political/Sorkin junkie so I was surprised to read some mixed and flat-out negative reviews.  Hopefully audiences will give it a chance.

    There have been precious few Oban sightings since the launch of this site.  Click here and here fore the previous clips.  Always nice to see this smokey Highland single malt pop up in a movie or show.

30 Year Old Glenfiddich Sighting in "Falling Skies"

    Three days ago I hadn't even heard of this series and now I'm completely hooked.  All credit goes to Dave (aka @WhiskyRepublic) for sending me this sighting of the 30 year old Glenfiddich.  The bottle shows up about 28 minutes into the the season 2 premier episode.

    The show itself is executive produced by none other than Steven Spielberg and centers around an alien occupation of Earth.  The special effects are surprisingly convincing and the series features some well-known actors.  Can't believe this show few under my radar for so long.

Johnnie Walker Blue Label in "Curb Your Enthusiasm"

    I always say that the best sightings are the ones in which the scotch is actually woven into the plot of the show or movie it appears in.  This is one of those sightings.  The Johnnie Walker Blue Label is shown or mentioned several times throughout this episode and is a relatively integral part of the story.  The clip below is from the season one finale entitled "The Group".

    I recently started watching this show again from the beginning as I had missed several episodes throughout the years.  I'm currently about half way through the second season DVD set but there has only been the one scotch appearance so far.  Hopefully there'll be more to come.

A Cheesy Glencallan Sighting From "Nip/Tuck"

    Here's the third sighting of the elusive Islay single malt known as Glencallan.  This time it is the 21 year old which was spotted in the 9th episode from season 4 of Nip/Tuck entitled "Liz Cruz".

    Gee, I wonder if the 21 year old is as good as the 30 year old which appeared in an episode of Burn Notice.  Guess we'll never know because neither of these whiskies actually exist.

Two Glenfiddich Sightings in "We Bought a Zoo"

    Here's another submission from Bozkurt.  A gentleman with a keen eye for spotting malts in movies.  Glad to see that I'm not the only maniac out there who loves finding whisky appearances on the big and small screen.

    Cameron Crowe's 2011 film We bought a Zoo starring Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson contains several brief shots of the Glenfiddich as you can see from the pictures below the video. I didn't include all of the Glenfiddich appearances in the film as some were very brief.  The video contains two scenes from the 1:00 and 1:44 marks in the film.

Charlize Theron Drinking Bourbon in "Young Adult"

     It was bound to happen sooner or later so here it is by request.  Our first Bourbon sighting!  Don't get used to it though.  There is a Pappy Van Winkle sighting coming up at some point but other than that the site will remain strictly scotch-centric.

     Charlize Theron was the determining factor when it came to deciding whether or not to post this scene.  Can someone please get this woman another Oscar already?  She definitely turns in yet another amazing performance here in Young Adult.  Check out the clip below where she experiences Patton Oswalt's signature bourbon concoction.
