Several Brands of Scotch in the "Hope Springs" Trailer

You might have to pause this one in order to pick out which particular brands of scotch Elisabeth Shue's character is serving up here.  Hope Springs is the new romantic comedy from Director David Frankel (The Devil Wears Prada)  and features Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones as an older couple attempting to rekindle their romance.

The movie itself won't be released in theaters until August so the best we can do right now is this newly released trailer.  Who knows?  Perhaps this will get Meryl Streep her seven millionth Oscar nomination.  Check out the trailer below.

Cool Scotch Scene From An Episode of "NYC 22"

Here's an interesting scene from the soon-to-be-cancelled series "NYC 22".  Let's face it.  Any show where Leelee Sobieski plays a New York City beat cop can't be long for this world.  The episode is entitled "Firebomb" and features a guest appearance from the very underrated Frank Whaley.  Whaley plays a frustrated former liquor store owner who firebombs his neighbor's home because they were selling "that weed".

The only single malt which is mentioned is a bottle of "Glenwelg" which doesn't actually exist but the bottle bears a striking resemblance to Ardbeg.  Watch the video below.  Special thanks to @Bozkutkarasu for sending me this tip on Twitter.

Hakushu Pure Malt 10 Year Old in "Kill Bill Vol. 1"?

WARNING:  This clip is from one of the most violent scenes in one of the most violent movies ever made.  It takes place during the manga animated segment of Quinten Tarantino's "Kill Bill Vol. 1".  Some might find it disturbing but I personally find the violence to be so over the top that it is somewhat comical.

Several readers have pointed out that the bottle used to burn down O-Ren Ishii's house bears a strinking resemblance to the 10 year old Hakushu Pure Malt Japanese whiskey.  I'll let you decide for yourself after watching the video below.  Perhaps someone who can read Japanese could translate the label if possible.

The scene takes place exactly 40 minutes into the film.  Another reader had mentioned that they thought the bottle looked similar to The Yamazaki 18.  You be the judge...

Tony Soprano Orders Some Glenlivet

Hard to believe but Scotch Cinema is officially a year old today. Seems like just yesterday I was screaming at my computer at 4am and trying to figure out how on Earth I would acquire, edit, upload, and write about all of these video clips.  Come to think of it, not much has changed since then.

Now on to the next scene.  This one is from the 15th episode of season 6 entitled "Remember When".  It features another classic exchange between Tony and Paulie Walnuts.  Watching this episode made me miss this series.  Kinda makes me want to go back and watch it again from the beginning.  The clip below takes place about 14 minutes into the episode.

Great Scotch Scene From the 2007 Movie "Hitman"

If anybody is able to identify the particular brand featured in this scene please let me know.  All you have to go on is a blurry close-up of the neck of the bottle.  Having said that I've included this scene regardless based on it's overall awesomeness.

The clip below takes place about 8 minutes into the film and features Agent 47 (Timothy Olyphant) nosing and sipping a relatively lightly colored scotch.  He is then jokingly chastised by a lovely lady for using too much ice.

UPDATE!: Thanks to two gentlemen (both named Scott) with a keen eye we may have identified the bottle.  It appears to be Dalwhinnie 15 year old judging by the diagonal cursive writing on the bottle neck.  Shout out to Scott MacKenzie for leaving a comment and to Scott Baker for the Facebook post.

Alec Baldwin Drinks Gold Label in "The Cooler"

After 150 posts I've finally found you a Johnnie Walker Gold Label appearance.  Now if someone could just bring me a Green Label sighting before it goes out of production my life will be complete.  Good luck wit that.

The Cooler premiered in 2000 and stars William H. Macy and Alec Baldwin.  Baldwin plays the quasi-gangster Vegas casino honcho cliche to perfection as you will see in the clip below.  The Gold Label appears about eight minutes into the film.  This scene also features Ron Livingston who has shown up a few times in the past on this site.

Meryl Streep Drinks The Famous Grouse in "The Iron Lady"

Now that The Iron Lady is finally available on Blu-ray and DVD I can present to you a montage of the many scotch sightings found throughout the film.  I did a brief post about the Famous Grouse appearances back in February while the film was in theaters but I was not able to include the clips.

This is also the inaugural Famous Grouse sighting, and what better way to introduce it than to have the greatest actress on Earth down glass after glass in an Oscar winning performance.  Mrs. Thatcher (Streep) is rarely more than arms length away from her trusty glass throughout much of the film as you can see in the clip below.

Glenlivet and Chivas In An Episode of "Mad Men"

It's hard to believe that after five seasons of Mad Men there have only been a couple of scotch sightings.  Red Label was featured in an episode from season three (click here to watch) and the clip you are about to see below is from the finale of season two.  The episode is entitled "Meditations In An Emergency".

It has been six months since the last Chivas or Glenlivet sightings so it's nice to see them pop up again.  Now that season five of Mad Men is in full swing let's hope that they give us some more dramtastic appearances.

Check out a few screenshots and some cool Mad Men promo artwork after the video.

Two Johnnie Walker Sightings in "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy"

Now that Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is finally out on Blu-Ray and DVD we can present to you the two scenes featuring Johnnie Walker. The first bottle is definitely Black Label but the second is impossible to discern.  It is a large bottle but only the back of the label itself is visible through the glass.

A recent post from a tipster on the Scotch Cinema Facebook page stated that there is also a Glenmorangie bottle in the film.  Please leave a comment below or email scotchcinema@gmail.com if you are able to spot it.
